This document lays out the preferred submission file for the Wisconsin QSO Party (WIQP). This information is intended primarily for logging program developers, but WIQP participants looking for more in-depth information on WIQP log files may also find it useful.

There are two considerations behind our log file format. First is that the log file contain all information needed to check and score an entrant's log per our rules. Second is our desire to make our log format compliant with the Cabrillo specification.

END-OF-LOG:
Header Notes

All tags should be in standard Cabrillo tag format: (left justified; upper case followed by a colon; words coupled with dashes).

LOCATION: is for two-character S/P/C information (State, Province or "DX") only. It should never contain county information. LOCATION: is the preferred tag name, but the older ARRL-SECTION: tag may be used.

There are two log header fields that are very helpful to WIQP but are not in the Cabrillo specification - ADDRESS-COUNTY: and CATEGORY:.

WIQP Rules call for Wisconsin stations to receive a bonus for each county they operate from outside their home QTH county, so a tag called ADDRESS-COUNTY: has been added for WIQP logs. This field needs to contain the primary operator's home QTH county.

There are seven traditional entry categories for WIQP, abbreviated SOF, SOM, SOR, MOF, MMF, MOM, MMM (See Rules). If the CATEGORY: tag contains one of these three-character groups, it unambiguously provides the entry category information. If CATEGORY: XXX is used, the next four CATEGORY- tags in the sample are not needed.

Although these two non-standard tags are helpful for accurately analyzing logs, they are not essential. [ADDRESS-COUNTY can be looked up from the home QTH zipcode and the entry category can be determined from the standard Cabrillo V3 CATEGORY- tags if they are all present in the log.]

CATEGORY-POWER: should be one of three power levels listed in the Rules (QRP, LOW, HIGH).

QSO Data Notes

The column alignment of the QSO data lines are the same as the ARRL 160M contest example in the Cabrillo specification except that RST columns are not needed. There should always be at least one space between fields.

Each QSO’s data should be on one line. Individual fields must be truncated if necessary to avoid wraps.

Non-Wisconsin stations must have their state or province in the sent exchange field and the county of the Wisconsin station worked in the received exchange field.

Wisconsin stations must have their current county in the sent exchange field and the received S/P/C or county in the received exchange field. Mobiles and Rovers should report their county operated from in the sent exchange field. See example.

The received exchange for QSO’s with stations outside the U.S. states and Canadian provinces should show “DX”.
