Tips for N3FJP's WIQP Program
Version 4.x

The current version was released since WIQP 2019.. Changes from the previous versions are minor. There are two versions of this program: in-WI operation and out-of-WI operation, so you need to make the appropriate choice.

The log files produced by recent versions all work fine with our log-check software, but not so with older versions. If you're running an older version (especially v2.0 or earlier), please upgrade.

The Setup screen
Setup screen The Setup box is shown at right. The only important items in this box are Call and County.

County needs to be the county you will be operating from. If you are a rover/mobile, you can change counties anytime on the main screen (Alt+C) during the contest.

In addition, note that your Home County must be entered in the Write Cabrillo form when you create your submission log file. This is important - you're bonus points cannot be calculated correctly without this information.

Using the program
Use TAB or SPACE to move through the Call, SPC (State/Prov/Country) and WI Cnty fields. Use Enter to log the contact. When you work a station in Wisconsin, you need to enter WI in the SPC field and the county in the WI Cnty field.

It's easy to enter the wrong county if you're not careful. If you know the exact 3-letter abbreviation for the county, type it in. If not, begin typing the full name of the county. The program will try to fill in the full name but it often jumps to the wrong conclusion, so be vigilant! Verify that the county name is correct before moving on.

Watch out for county names starting with:
     MAR - Marathon(MAR), Marinette(MRN) and Marquette(MRQ)
     WAU - Waukesha(WAU), Waupaca(WAP) and Waushara(WSR), and
     WAS - Washburn(WSB), Washington(WAS)
Also, Green and Green Lake counties are confusing. It will default to Green, so for Green Lake county, type "Green L" or "GRL".

Investing in some practice time can save you a lot of frustration during the contest. Practice logging QSO's until you're comfortable with it.

Also, we suggest that you print out the master list of county abbreviations that is on the WIQP website, and keep it handy. Having the list will allow you cross the full county name with the correct abbreviation.

If you do not have your radio connected to your computer, it is highly recommended. Otherwise you need to remember to select the right band and mode every time you change.
